Club Kit

When competing in Sussex Grand Prix (SGP) races, East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League races (ESSCCL) races and Sussex Amateur Athletics Association (Sussex AAA) races, members must wear a Club vest (adults) or t-shirt (juniors) provided by the Club.

If you want to purchase any other Club kit (hoodies etc.) these items are available via our supplier's on-line shop which opens only occasionally.  Members will be advised when the shop is open.

Sussex Grand Prix

The Club participates in the Sussex Grand Prix. This a series of road races run every calendar year starting on 1st January and ending on 31st December. The Crowborough 10K is part of the series and is usually the last of the Sussex Grand Prix races. Members can compete in the Sussex Grand Prix individually and the Club can compete as a team. Individual prizes are awarded by gender and by age category to participants completing the requisite number of races. For the 2025 SGP season participants had to compete in at least 6 of the 12 scheduled races.

You can run more than 6 races but only your best 6 results will be taken for the purposes of the competition. Winners are based on the number of points accumulated over the 6 best races.

Club members are encouraged to participate in as many races as possible and to complete the required number of races to enable them to compete in the overall individual competition.

The full list of races for the coming year to be included in the 2026 Grand Prix series will confirmed early in 2026 and will be added to the Races and Events calendar when known.

Cross Country

.

The Club participates in the East Sussex Cross Country League with six races being organised each season. The cross-country season usually starts in October and finishes in March with one race each month. Each race is approximately 5 miles over varying courses, from open downland to very muddy woodland. The Club enters as a team and members may also compete individually.

For the 2025/2026 season, the Club requires 20 runners for a full team including 12 men and 8 women. Up to 5 further runners count as scoring runners who can benefit the team by “pushing back” runners from other teams. In the individual competition, prizes are awarded in gender and age group categories for participants running in at least 4 out of the 6 races in a season. You can run more than 4 races but only your best 4 results will be taken for the purposes of the competition. The Club encourages as many members as possible to compete in the cross country regardless of ability.

In addition to competing in the East Sussex Cross Country League, the Club awards its own prizes for the best overall male and female runner in the cross-country season, based on performance throughout the cross country season.

The 2025/2026 race results can be found on the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League Website .

As the Club is affiliated to Sussex Amateur Athletics associated, Club members are also eligible to enter races in the Sussex AA 2025/26 cross country fixture list.  Further details can be found at  Sussex Cross Country League website.

Schedule of races for the ESSCCL and Sussex AA 2025/26 seasons are included in the Races and Events Calendar.

South Downs Way Relay

The South Downs Way 100 Mile Relay (SDWR) normally takes place on the first Saturday in June each year. Entry is by invitation only but the Club has been fortunate in that it has been able to enter a team in most years.

The race follows the route of the South Downs Way from Beachy Head to Chilcomb, near Winchester and comprises 16 legs of varying distances, with the total distance of the race being 97 miles.

Teams consist of 6 members, with a mixed team being 3 male and 3 female runners.  Each team members is required to run 3 non-consecutive legs and a team is required to complete the full distance of the race by the cut-off time of 14 hours. What legs a team member runs is decided by the Team Captain.

The Club provides a minibus to ferry runners to the start and to their various handover points, as well for returning home to Crowborough at the end of the day.

Club members are invited to apply for the Club's team membership by submitting when requested their fastest 10k, half-marathon or marathon time in the past year.  Runners with the fastest times, and thus best able to enable the team to complete the course within the deadline, are selected. In addition to six team members, 2 reserves are selected.  This is in case one of the team members is unable to run on the day. Team members and reserves are expected to rehearse the legs they have been selected to run.

In addition to team members, members are invited to act as driver and navigator for the minibus and to act as marshals for the handover point at Bo-Peep carpark situated on the Downs between Alfriston and Firle.

Social Events

In addition to its normal running events, the Club has a full calendar of social events each year in which all members are invited to participate.

There is usually something happening every month.  For example in the summers months there is a monthly Pub Run, where a Wednesday run starts and ends at a local inn and is followed by a glass of something refreshing a catch-up with fellow members.  In the winter months a Wednesday run ends at Fisssh in Crowborough High Street for some batter and a natter.

Other events held in the past have included:

  • a 10k relay on the track at the Goldsmith Recreation Ground, when adult and junior members were invited to form teams of 6 runners and compete to be the fastest to run 25 laps of the track, followed by beer and pizza
  • a Summer Run and Brunch party, when after  a run around the trails of Rotherfield members enjoyed an al fresco brunch.
  • A Christmas Party with the opportunity to dress to impress, dine and disco.
  • A Christmas Lights run around the streets of Crowborough to gaze at the many festively decorated houses ending with mince pies and mulled wine.
  • The Club's Annual General Meeting, followed by a barbeque.

Keep and eye out for upcoming events being advertised in the Race and Events Calendar.

Awards are based on a member's combined time for their fastest 10k, 5-mile and 5k races in the past year.

A 5-mile race can be a road race or a cross country race, including races that are part of the ESSCCL season.

A 5k can be a road race or a parkrun at any location.

Trophies are awarded by age category for both male and female members.

All times are then age-graded, based on the Runners World Age Grade Calculator, and awards are made to the fastest first three men and first three ladies on this basis. In addition to receiving a trophy, each of the winners receives a sports voucher.
