7th December 1930 - 27th April 2007
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of our oldest member, Len Cumbers, at the end of April. Len was a well known and popular Sussex runner who joined the club in 1995 at the age of 65. His enthusiasm and enjoyment of his sport encouraged many over the subsequent years.
Len was famous for his no-nonsense pre-race training regime: while a pint or two of beer the night before, followed by a full English breakfast in a North Eastern boarding house prior to the Great North Run has never appeared in the nutritional advice columns of Runnerís World, it contributed to some fine performances from Mr Cumbers.
As chairman of the Crowborough 10k committee, Len worked hard to make the event an annual success and important fund-raiser for the club. He will be missed for his dedication, his inspiration and his sense of fun. Our thoughts are with Jean, his widow, and their family as they come to terms with their loss.
